Finally Good News On Spanking

These days "news" is more about sensationalism and less about the responsible reporting of facts. Bottom line - headlines sell. Case in point - new studies are published everyday and most will never be read, let alone be "ink worthy". But when Professor Murray Strauss published his latest study it made headlines around the world. Why?

The study concluded "children who are spanked are more likely as adults to coerce partners to have sex, to have unprotected sex and to have masochistic sex". US News and World Report's account of this story ran with the headline "Spanking Raises Chances of Risky, Deviant Sexual Behavior" Hum, Deviant Sexual Behavior bet that boosted readership.

The good news - many articles are being published that refute or at least question the studies finding. The most credible source to issue comments on the study is the
American College of Pediatricians. The Concord Monitor also published a good opinion letter on the subject and AgoraVox, a European on-line publication, posted this succinct commentary .

I encourage you to follow the links I've provided and to send Me your comments on this subject. You know how I enjoy views on spanking!!

Casting Stones

This will be an interesting week in the news - New York's Governor is in hot water. So far, there are a lot of sound bites with very few details, but the bigger the man the more people will flock to see him fall.

I think that all men are human and thus not perfect. What a shame that all the good he's done will be forgotten and he'll be remembered for being a man. What bothers me is that this follows a tsunami of inquires from the National Enquirer about the NY BDSM scene and the March 6 issue of Time Out New York's "Secret Lives of New Yorkers: A go-go dancing lawyer, an orgy-loving dad and a pot smoking doctor. What's wrong with you people?" When did Time Out become so judgmental?

Which brings to mind John 8:7: "So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her."

Not Getting Your Fair Share?

If you're an American, and the subject is sex, then you probably aren't getting much at all. According to a recently survey, American's are the 2nd most undersexed country in the world (be thankful you don't live in Japan!). But no matter where you live and how much you get, 56% are unsatisfied with the quality of what they do get. Hopefully you are one of 44% that are "fully satisfied with their sex lives." Even worse, only 60% said sex was important. Sounds like sour grapes to Me!

P.S. - I never get included in these surveys - they don't want to skew the data!

BDSM Debate: Tax Dollars Hard at Work in Massachusetts

If you thought Politics only deals with boring bills, then you haven't been keeping up with Massachusetts House Bill 1722, the Transgender Rights Bill. While the bill itself may not make good reading, the debate it has sparked spans the gamut of emotions- from conservative thoughtfulness, to the wildly absurd.

I am in no way voicing My opinion on this bill and the very real issues it's attempting to address. I am concerned about what it might mean with respect to standards of public behavior. My personal standard of behavior has always been in keeping with the mantra: Safe, Sane and Consensual. In My professional life I am often asked about public outings with clients. I don't feel anyone has the right to force their fetish on the general public.

So while some Dommes may spank a sub in public, or allow foot worship in a public park, I won't risk having a child or other adult view these scenes - they obviously didn't consent to such a show. I, of course, don't mind pushing the envelope under the right circumstances and find that public teasing can often be quite erotic, but I pick My spots very carefully. Teasing behaviors are best left to very discrete actions in public which only make private encounters more enjoyable.
