Spankings - Do They Lead to Success

Much to my delight, spanking is in the news again! It seems that if you spare the rod, you may really spoil the child - spoil their shot at corporate success, that is.

USA Today asked top CEOs about being spanked as children. It turns out that many top CEOs believe spankings taught them the discipline they needed to achieve success.

Some people feel this sends parents the wrong message--NOT. Most of today's CEOs grew up during a time in the US when spakings were given freely and often to correct behavior and serve as a deterant for future lapses in judgement. The phrase "wait till your Father/Mother gets home" was terrifying to many kids. It wasn't a threat but a promise. Today's parents often threaten punishment that is never delivered. When punishment is levied, most favor withholding privlidges or taking away items like game systems. Not nearly the same thing in my book!

The unruly behavior we are forced to endure daily on the subway, on buses or in resturants would not have been tolerated by My parent's generation. I certainly didn't tolerate it from My children. Is this behavior simply a product of changing times or due to a change in discipline habits?
